who is xavier becerra?

Xavier is the son of Mexican-American immigrants who came to the United States with $12 in their pockets. His dad worked as a construction worker and his mom worked as a clerical worker. He was the first in his family to go to college.

Xavier has spent 35 years serving California, from the State Assembly, to Congress, as California’s Attorney General, and as the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

  • As a member of Congress, Xavier worked hard to help pass the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which extended coverage to millions of Californians who didn’t have health care.

  • As Attorney General, Xavier led the charge against the Trump Administration’s illegal actions. He took Trump to court 122 times – and won.

    • One of these challenges was defending the ACA against Republican lawsuits aiming to dismantle it. As California AG and Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier helped ensure the ACA’s survival.

    • We need a governor who has experience taking on big national fights. He is someone who can and will stand up to federal power (the Trump Administration) if needed – and win.

  • As Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier lowered Californians’ health care costs by negotiating down prescription drug prices (for the first time in American history!). He also expanded the ACA to new people, lowering premiums even more and increasing enrollment.

why is xavier running for governor?

Californians are facing an affordability crisis. Homes and rent are too expensive, people can barely cover their grocery bills, and health care costs are too high.

Xavier knows what this is like. He is not a billionaire. His parents came to the United States with $12 in their pockets. Throughout his career, Xavier has worked to make essential services like health care more affordable, particularly for middle-income families.

California’s next governor must understand the challenges families face and have a proven record of making the state more affordable.

why xavier?

Xavier is not a billionaire. He is one of us.

Xavier has experience and a proven track record. He knows how to get things done.  And he knows how to take on the Trump Administration and win.

Xavier has been endorsed by Equality California, Planned Parenthood, the California Medical Association, the California State Council of Laborers, and the California Faculty Association, among others.

If elected, Xavier will be California’s first Latino governor in 150 years.
