why xavier becerra?
It All Begins Here
Xavier is the son of Mexican-American immigrants who came to the United States with $12 in their pockets. His dad worked as a construction worker and his mom worked as a clerical worker. He was the first in his family to go to college.
Xavier has spent 35 years serving California, from the State Assembly, to Congress, as California’s Attorney General, and as the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
As a member of Congress, Xavier worked hard to help pass the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which extended coverage to millions of Californians who didn’t have health care.
As Attorney General, Xavier led the charge against the Trump Administration’s illegal actions. He took Trump to court 122 times – and won.
One of these challenges was defending Obamacare against Republican lawsuits aiming to dismantle it. As California AG and Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier helped ensure Obamacare’s survival.
We need a governor who has experience taking on big national fights. He is someone who can and will stand up to federal power (the Trump Administration) if needed – and win.
As Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier lowered Californians’ health care costs by negotiating down prescription drug prices (for the first time in American history!). He also expanded the ACA to new people, lowering premiums even more and increasing enrollment.
